This exclusive display includes rare comic books, including “Tales of Astonish”-the very first appearance of Iron Man, original helmets of Thor and Loki from the film production of “Thor”, a statue of the Iron Man suit from “Iron Man 2″, mini busts of Marvel characters from Bowen Designs, and an array of action figures Lee has acquired throughout his storied career. Guests can also take their picture with the Tony Stark wax figure from Madame Tussauds Hollywood.

What’s in a name? That which we call a NASCAR driver by a slightly different name would be an artist group. Such is the case with JEFF&GORDON, the artist duo comprised of Jeff Foye and Gordon Winiemko; and Jeff Gordon, the charismatic NASCAR driver (#24). The ampersand—the symbol for the Latin word for “and”—is all that separates the artist duo from the driver. Such a small detail can be easily overlooked, or so it would seem by the number of Jeff Gordon NASCAR fans who mistakenly “like” the artists’ Facebook page. FORBIDDEN ZONE - Live Shadowcast 30th Anniversary Screening with Richard Elfman! Mondo Celluloid - Friday, June 22, 2012 - Art Theatre - Long Beach

Join us on June 22 as we sing HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY to one of the greatest cult classics ever - 1982’s insane, unique, hilarious, and utterly brilliant FORBIDDEN ZONE!

Notable as being our very first Mondo Midnight selection at The Art Theatre of Long Beach, FORBIDDEN ZONE is the inspired brainchild of Richard Elfman, founding member of the legendary Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, who along with writer Matthew Bright (who would later helm the 1996 cult classic “Freeway”) mixed in everything from Max Fleisher to Cab Calloway to Josephine Baker to unleash a musical unlike any the world had ever seen. Mix in a typically masterful score by Elfman brother Danny (who makes a fan-favorite appearance…), a dancing frog in a tuxedo, a gorilla, an ex-queen (EX-QUEEN!?!!), and a sex-crazed kingdom ruled by the weirdest royal family in celluloid history, and you have the movie that Film Threat called “The Citizen Kane of Underground Movies.” Read the rest of this entry

h1 Friday, April 27th, 2012

A bit of Disneyland history will be get the bulldozer soon and be a pinktastic village for guests to meet Disney Princesses at the former home of Carnation Plaza Gardens.

The location is best known for it’s swing dancing parties now on Saturday for decades. Several famous amazing people have graced the stage and the dance floor. Irvine based dance school Atomic Ballroom is asking participants to wear their swankiest Hawaiian gear for a proper Aloha send off to this bit of history. Disney has plans to return the swing nights once the Princess invasion is built. Current temporary plans are to move the swing night to a small stage over in Downtown Disney by the AMC Theatre. Sunday, April 30, 2012 is the official last day for the location.
