h1 Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Join the Justice League and become a force for good in the world.

This is your time to be a hero.

Countries in the Horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya) are facing the worst drought in 60 years, causing a severe hunger crisis. According to the U.S. government, the crisis is unlike any other in terms of displacement, death and starvation of the population. More than 13 million people are in need of critical assistance. In Somalia alone, more than 250,000 people face starvation. Hundreds of thousands have fled to refugee camps seeking help. The situation is so critical that the United Nations officially declared famine for the first time in 21 years.

Humanitarian aid organizations are on the ground working to provide much needed relief to the drought and famine-stricken areas. But they need more help. They need our help. Read the rest of this entry

The Oscar Nominations - Academy Awards airs on Sunday, February 26, 2012

h1 Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

The race begins for that naked gold dude. So there is some sadness here for the lack of nominations for Drive except for editing? Come on really guys? Word is Shame is also amazing but got snubbed due to the film dealing with sex addiction. It is great to see nominations for Bridemaids, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows 2 and The Muppets on the lists. Also really amused that The Artist which is silent has 10 nominations which even includes best screenplay. Another what the hell moment is Puss in Boots for Animated and Transformers is nominated twice, plus Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close which is the head scratcher for word on the street it is like a super high price Lifetime movie is nominated for best picture. This is why bad or not so great movies keep getting made guys. What is also interesting is that the two songs that had a huge battle royale tongue lashing cat fight between Elton John and Madonna at the Golden Globes are not noms. Hugo was a bit of a surprise, but our money is on The Artist. Anyways the  Oscars will air on Sunday, February 26, 2012.

Here is the list:

Best Picture

War Horse
The Artist
The Descendants
The Tree of Life
Midnight in Paris
The Help
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

Best Actress

Glenn Close, Albert Nobbs
Rooney Mara, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
Viola Davis, The Help
Meryl Streep, The Iron Lady Read the rest of this entry
