TEAM AMERICA: World Police film screening and sing-a-long! Friday, July 2, 2010 - The Vista Theatre

h1 Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

NERDS LIKE US, the new monthly midnight movie series that brought you Ghostbusters and Goonies is temporarily departing the 80s to start your 4th of July weekend off right with a midnight sing-a-long to Trey Parker’s TEAM AMERICA. Daran Norris, the voice of Spotswoode, will be joining us for the evening! Tickets are 10.50 and while the Vista is one of the most gorgeous cinema houses in Los Angeles, they unfortunately do not have an online ordering system at this time. They do have 488 seats however (with crazy amounts of leg room), so you should be alright for a ticket if you’re there by 11:50. The film will begin rolling no later than 12:10.

Please spread the word all over facebook! This will be a great, fun, social event! Join a theatre full of people singing FUCK YEAH!

Start Time:
Friday, July 2, 2010 at 11:30pm
End Time:
Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 2:30am

Easy Rider

Directed by Dennis Hopper (1969 95 mins)

gates 7:30 pm movie 9:00 pm
no reservation necessary
$10 donation tickets available at gate
as a courtesy to other moviegoers: NO TALL CHAIRS!!

Easy Rider was Hopper’s directorial debut, and its meteoric success single handedly changed the film industry forever. Filled with sun-drenched psychedelic photography, elegant, energetic editing and a colorful cast of hippies, call girls, bikers and rednecks. It is one of the most authentic portrayals of the era.

Maverick, outlaw, photographer, director, actor: Dennis Hopper’s life was as colorful and wild as his film career. Whether raving like a madman, or lucid, cold and calculating, Hopper always handled his roles with aplomb. Join us under the stars in a tribute to this remarkable man.

The Simpsons co-creator Matt Groening calls it “one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen.” The BAFTA-nominated Look Around You is a spoof comedy based on the unforgettable educational programs of the ’70s. Created by and starring Robert Popper (Peep Show, Hot Fuzz) and Peter Serafinowicz (Couples Retreat, Shaun of the Dead), presenters Jack Morgan (Popper) and Peter Packard (Serafinowicz) bring the nonsensical wonders of science and a series of gloriously deadpan experiments to life as the show comes to BBC DVD. Robert and Peter host the signing.

BBC AMERICA’s hit sci-fi show Being Human, which follows three twenty-somethings living double lives as a werewolf, a vampire, and a ghost, returns for an all-new U.S. premiere season the same weekend as Comic-Con. The Los Angeles Times declared, “Buffy fans - come out of the Twilight and sink your teeth into this import.” Creator/writer Toby Whithouse will join cast members Russell Tovey (George), Lenora Crichlow (Annie), Aidan Turner (Mitchell), and Sinead Keenan (Nina) on stage for a signing at the BBC AMERICA booth (#3629). Being Human premieres Saturday, July 24, directly following the Doctor Who season finale. The Being Human: Season 1 DVD hits stores on July 20.

Creator/writer Toby Whithouse with cast members Russell Tovey (George), Lenora Crichlow (Annie), Aidan Turner (Mitchell), and Sinead Keenan (Nina) are on stage for a fan Q&A and exclusive inside peek at the new U.S. premiere season. Don’t miss the chance to get the inside secrets on the double-lives of a werewolf, a vampire, and a ghost, joined this season by George’s friend Nina who’s got a mysterious secret of her own.
Doctor Who Exclusives
The BBC AMERICA booth (#3629)
Doctor Who, which delivered record ratings for BBC AMERICA, wraps its current season the weekend of Comic-Con. While the team is currently filming and unable to attend Comic-Con, that doesn’t mean the Doctor’s presence won’t be felt in San Diego. BBC AMERICA will host an exclusive U.S. premiere fan screening of this season’s two-part finale, along with the all-new season opener of Being Human.

This year marks the first time contemporary Doctor Who exclusives have been available at Comic-Con. At the BBC AMERICA booth (#3629), fans can purchase Doctor Who specialty items including the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) figurine in burgundy shirt and suspenders and an Orange Dalek Scientist figurine as well as two show t-shirts designed especially for Comic-Con. Being Human t-shirts will also be available at the BBC AMERICA booth

After a seven year hiatus, Futurama’s new season debuts tonight at 10 pm on Comedy Central with an hour of back-to-back episodes. The premiere episode, titled “Rebirth,” finds the gang having to get reborn after a space battle leaves them reduced to skeletons, creepy and awesome. So far Comedy Central has ordered 26 new Futurama episodes. Guest voices over the course of the upcoming run will include Katee Sackhoff, George Takei, Chris Elliot, Devo, Craig Ferguson (as a talking part of Leela’s anatomy) and Patton Oswalt, who will be voicing a character called Unattractive Giant Monster.
