Join the Impact Responds to the Call for DayOfDecision.org Co-Sponsors

NATIONAL - In the near future, the California Supreme Court will announce its decision on whether or not to repeal Proposition 8. The ruling could come down as early as this week, and as late as June 5th. When this time comes, it will either be a moment of protest or celebration for the LGBTQ community. To respond to both possible outcomes, grassroots activists Robin Tyler and Andy Thayer are calling for Day of Decision activities across the US. Join the Impact and many other national organizations are adding their support and resources to the national effort. Read the rest of this entry

MATRIX ANNIVERSARY MARATHON!

Ten years ago, with only an independent cult hit (BOUND) and a script for a Sylvester Stallone action flick (ASSASSINS) on their resume, brothers Larry and Andy Wachowski embarked on one of the most ambitious science fiction trilogies of all time. The MATRIX movies combined elements from varied genre classics and added a healthy dose of original thought to become a beloved (and heavily discussed and analyzed) series of contemporary entertainments.

THE MATRIX, 1999, Warner Bros., 136 min. Dirs. Larry and Andy Wachowski. Keanu Reeves learns that the universe is controlled by computers, not humans-he and his fellow men are mere batteries to provide bioelectrical energy-and he isn’t even living in 1999 as he believes, but hundreds of years later. When revolutionary Laurence Fishburne opens Reeves’ eyes, the reluctant hero leads a revolt (with help from Carrie-Anne Moss and others) against the powers that be. Working from influences including BLADE RUNNER, VIDEODROME and assorted Hong Kong action movies, the Wachowski brothers have created a new science fiction landmark. Read the rest of this entry

Sunset Boulevard & Mulholland Dr. - Silent Movie Theatre - March 27 2009 - Friday

h1 Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Are You Ready For Your Close Up?

Sunset Boulevard, a savage satire of Hollywood’s dream machine, is as revered today as it was despised by Hollywood bigwigs upon its release. Positively hemorrhaging the desperation and decaying glamor that permeates Hollywood’s underbelly and populated by a world of wannabees and has-beens, Sunset Boulevard is the definitive Hollywood Gothic. Featuring noir-ish plotpoints and ghoulish humour, the film’s rightly famous centerpiece is the exquisitely outsized and iconic perfomance of Gloria Swanson as delusional harpie Norma Desmond, a former silent star hell-bent on reclaiming her celluloid throne. Erich Von Stroheim is wittily cast as her Prussian butler, and a young William Holden co-stars as her boytoy/whipping boy, a struggling screenwriter who can nothing but wait for his uproarious fate. It’s Desmond’s home, though, that says it all, a rotting mansion of aging dreams with death at the door–a perfect staging ground for her mothballed flagellating delusions. Don’t miss it this year. Join the shuffling undead at this year’s Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors!!! So.Cal Zombiewalk intends to make history this year by taking a stab at breaking the world record for Zombie Walkers, in a menacing march around the LA Convention Center. All living dead are welcome to participate in this postmortem parade, as well as contribute to their charitable blood and food drives.

The event will take place on April 18, 2009 at The Los Angeles Convention Center.

THE PLAN OF “ATTACK!”:

Saturday, April 18, 2009

Time: 9 am - All Zombies report to The Main Auditorium (Petree Hall)
Apply make up if you haven’t already. Practice moaning and groaning “Braaiinnzzzz… More braaiinnzzzz” and your best rigor mortis walk (Remember ZOMBIES DON’T RUN!)

Time: 9:30 am - Zombie Walk Begins:

- Zombies exit The Main Auditorium (Petree Hall) and shamble about following the official blood red route. While on the sidewalk you must stay in Zombie Mode. (See Rules of Conduct & “What is a Zombie Walk” below at links)

Time: 10 am:

- Zombies reach the end of the route, show opens and Zombies converge with the living to enjoy the rest of the festivities.
All times are tentative and subject to change.

D23 Membership AKA is Disney out of touch?

h1 Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

By Rick A Mortis

So Disney has unveiled it’s D23 membership which is an official online Disney community.

D23 Charter Membership

A one-year D23 membership ($74.99) includes, with my comments afterwards:

  • Disney twenty-three quarterly publication: A one-year subscription (four issues) to D23’s new collectible magazine filled with stunning photography, dazzling illustrations and the ultimate Disney insider perspective. This advertising-free keepsake is the all-access pass to discovering the magic of Disney’s past, present and future.

So you get to pay about 75 bucks for 4 magazines… How out of touch is Disney with this?  People are broke or out of work. But really it’s not much a deal since $15.95 is how much it will be at newsstands. Read the rest of this entry
