The Awards of the Academy and I am Exhausted!

h1 Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

By T.J. “Pandora” Teer

The 81st annual Academy Awards otherwise known as “2008: The Year of the Slumdog.” This year, the Awards of the Academy I must admit was the best that I have ever seen in my whole life. Hugh Jackman is a fantastic host and master of ceremonies. Hugh has truly found his niche as a host.  I must admit that the new procedures for having previous winners of awards speaking to the new current nominees took my heartstrings and made a small tug. Why have they not done this before? I am semi happy that we have voters leaving the academy this year because it was high time for the changing of the guard. This is the time of change for our country and for the arts as well. I absolutely LOVED the Sworvski Crystal curtain that literally lit up the front stage of the show stage. I think that we have finally found in Hollywood the prestige that we lost some time in the sixties or eighties.

We as the entertainment industry are beginning to realize the awards are suppose to be a source of opulence and sophistication…simplistic yet refined. Not technically label whores, but a sort of style and finesse.
Best supporting actress goes to Penelope Cruz who, by the way, looked lovely like a big fluffy flower.
Steve Martin and Tina Fay announced the best writer for the movie “Milk” (written by Dustin Lance Black”)
Also announcing for the best adapted screenplay goes to Simon Beaufow for “Slumdog Millionaire”. I had
not even HEARD of Slumdog until this evening…and I am a theatre person! WTF?

I identified with Jack Black’s theory that take all his voice over earnings then go to the awards and bet it all on PIXAR for the best animated film…of COURSE Wall-E won…although I liked Kung Fu Panda as well. Best animated short film was something called ‘La Maison Le Petits Cubes’…I was hoping for ‘Presto’ personally. Read the rest of this entry

Disney New “The Princess And The Frog” Shown at Toy Fair

h1 Thursday, February 19th, 2009

The Princess And The Frog Toy Line

The Princess And The Frog toy line is inspired by the magical elements and characters featured in the fairytale, including the beautiful Princess Tiana, Frog Prince Naveen, a trumpet-playing alligator and a love-sick Cajun firefly. The toys boast vibrant colors such as purple, green, gold and blue, with decorative elements reminiscent of New Orleans and the bayou. New  dolls, playsets, fun role-play items and costumes and colorful accessories are in the mix. Look for the first wave of “The Princess and the Frog” merchandise to start rolling in in late October / early November.

Just in time for the holiday shopping season to buy more stuff!

The Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs Toy Line

The first Disney Princess, Snow White, was introduced to the world in 1937 as “the fairest of them all” in Walt Disney’s – and the world’s – first full-length animated feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. After more than 70 years, Snow White continues to inspire girls of all ages with her beauty, grace, kind nature and love for animals. Girls will be able to re-live moments from the classic film and celebrate the debut Blu-ray with a new toy line that hearkens back to life in the woods with her furry little friends in the cottage.

I could not find and image for this so sorry kids! Maybe the Evil Queen is up to no good again? Hmmmm…

About “The Princess And The Frog”

The Princess And The Frog marks Disney’s return to the warmth and grandeur of 2D hand drawn animation. Set in one of the greatest musical cities of them all, New Orleans, the film teams Ron Clements and John Musker, creators of The Little Mermaid and Aladdin, with Oscar winning composer, Randy Newman. From the heart of Louisiana’s mystical bayous and the banks of the mighty Mississippi comes an unforgettable tale of love, adventure, comedy and heart. Voice talent includes Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, Jenifer Lewis, John Goodman, Jim Cummings, Terrence Howard and Oprah Winfrey.

This is pretty awesome to see Disney bring back it’s 2 D art. Pretty awesome cast of voices. The teaser trailer can be found below.

For Barbie’s 50th anniversary, 50 designers recreated her most iconic outfits for the runway. Good ol Barbie still looking good and no botox. Ok maybe some cosmetic surgery. Barbie’s official birthday bash will be on March 9, 2009.
Barbie in her first official debut in 1959.
Barbie celebrated her big birthday by making her runway strut debut at New York Fashion Week at Bryant Park on Saturday. Well she did hit Project Runway but I guess this would make it her legit runway show. Sorry Heidi and Tom.

Belly Dancing abound at Club Skandal last Sat. night.

h1 Monday, February 9th, 2009

Last weekend there I was sipping coffee with Michael Alexander and Esme trying to think of something “DIFFERENT”… I didn’t go to the Edwardian Ball, not to mention that last Saturday happened to be the 20th birthday of our friend “Freeze Dried Pussy” (okay, her name’s Tabi, but I call her Freeze dried pussy…ask me to explain it at the club sometime, ANYway…)

FDP (Freeze Dried Pussy) wants to go to a club…wants to go to a club…so I go into major search mode for an 18+ goth club…

SO, instead of heading to Hollywood, we needed to be in the IE (inland empire) area because some of us had to be in the Rancho Cuckoo part of a photo shoot…

VOILA! along came Club Skandal!

Located at Pepitos in Riverside (perfect for the Rancho Cuckoos and AltaLomians)

As much as I can’t deal with those under 21…I figured what the hell, right?

THEN I saw the magic word on the flier…

Anytime that I hear the words “gothic” and “Belly Dancing” linked together in one sentence? I get all gooey and squeak with glee!

COUNT ME IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The dancers were FANTABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Read the rest of this entry
